We are looking for a Payroll Operations manager responsible for implementing, overseeing, and managing payroll operations across Africa.

This role also leads and fosters proactive collaboration with customers and key internal and external business partners while driving operational excellence and 100% compliance.

The successful candidate must demonstrate a proven track record for payroll operations in multiple countries, preferably in Africa. Strong background with and working knowledge of payroll regulations, labour and employment tax regulations, and applicable end-to-end activities encompassing payroll operations is required.

To be successful in this role, the Payroll Operations Manager must have the ability to understand and apply compliance and regulations, tax legislation, and process standardization in a large, complex payroll operation, delivering results timely and accurately. This individual must be an independent thinker with the ability to work with little day-to-day direction while providing leadership, guidance, and oversight to payroll staff and internal partners regarding payroll, employment tax actions, policies, and procedures.

What the role involves:

  • Organize and lead staff, ensuring a fully efficient payroll operation throughout Africa.
  • Verify and maintain compliance with government payroll/tax requirements.
  • Establish and maintain partnerships with local payroll processors in each country across Africa.
  • Keep abreast of current and changing payroll and employment tax laws.
  • Must have a broad and deep understanding of payroll operations, including reporting and year-end activities.
  • Review and audit current processes to ensure compliance while recommending and implementing changes where needed.
  • Strong understanding of Time & Labor laws and requirements, with the ability to lead and strategize changes.
  • Ensure audit and reconciliations are performed and delivered as needed and designed, helping to deliver timely and accurate payroll.
  • Must have a general understanding and knowledge of payroll accounting while working closely with various organizational partners to ensure accurate GL & tax reporting.
  • Respond to complex payroll-related inquiries from employees and clients.
  • Communicate effectively with various teams (engineering, product, management etc) to ensure high customer support and positive customer interactions.
  • Conduct ongoing training for payroll staff to ensure productivity and knowledge of overall processes are maintained and improved.

You Have

  • Bachelor's degree preferred. (CPA or other certification preferred.)
  • 3+ years of experience in payroll-related operations throughout Africa, with a minimum of 3 years of payroll and employment tax experience in a large, complex organization.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, agile environment.
  • Ability to process and connect information in times of ambiguity.
  • Significant background and demonstrated understanding of payroll operations, payroll tax, associated principles and compliance requirements.
  • Ability to manage time, prioritize deliverables, multi-task and work under pressure in a dynamic work environment.
  • Exceptional organizational, analytical, research and problem-solving skills.
  • Advanced analytical skillset, including the use of Excel and other tools.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of employer benefits and treatment in payroll.
