Network security engineers are responsible for the provisioning, deployment, configuration, and administration of many different pieces of network and security-related hardware and software. These include firewalls, routers, switches, various network-monitoring tools, and virtual private networks (VPNs). These engineers are a company’s first line of defense against unauthorized access from outside sources and potential security threats. Not only does a network security engineer know how to mitigate any potential threats that become evident, but they also how to strategize and prepare before any security threat is enacted.
What you’ll be doing:
- Provide engineering support and regular maintenance of client: Servers, storage devices, operating systems, networking devices, telecommunications, and firewalls
- Monthly scheduled maintenance and patching of critical networking assets
- Troubleshoot & remediation of critical network assets (e.g., servers, storage devices, operating systems, networking devices, and firewalls)
- Design and drive network and security projects and initiatives
- Will actively participate in researching trends and current countermeasures for cybersecurity vulnerabilities, exploits, and other malicious activity
- Provide Incident Response (IR) support as needed
- Provide analysis based on threat and vulnerability reports
- Analyze and respond to previously undisclosed software and hardware vulnerabilitiesInterpreting and acting on results from various security technologies including SIEM, IDS/IPS, Endpoint Solutions, DLP, etc.
- Complete setup of end-user computers that include migrating software and user files
- Setting up VPN’s site to site
- Work with Service Desk Engineers and Level 3 Engineering to ensure Ticket Resolution
- Qualifying and respond to Level 2 and Level 3 Tickets using our Service Desk Ticketing software
- Triage Tickets according to priority levels
- Assist with defining purchasing needs hardware, software, and services for clients
We’re looking for:
- 3+ years of experience in IT administration with a focus on computer networking and/or Information security
- Two-year degree in computer science, information systems, or a related field
- Other industry certifications a plus (CCNA, Security+, OSCP, etc.)
- Experience with multiple vendor hardware platforms including Cisco, Fortinet, Ubiquiti, and Juniper
- Knowledge of Layer2/3 technologies and protocols, including, RSTP, VLAN, VTP, ARP, OSPF, BGP
- Ability to analyze complex situations and utilize troubleshooting skills, systems and tools, and creative problem-solving abilities under pressure
- Solid understanding of Enterprise Network Design, infrastructure, and operational best practices
- Proficiency in Linux operating system, scripting experience a plus
- Ability to work in fast-paced and dynamic environments with limited supervision
- Monitor all in-place security solutions for efficient and appropriate operations. Including but not limited to Azure Sentinel, CrowdStrike Falcon, Cisco Umbrella, and the Microsoft 365 Security & Compliance center
