The role You'll be our first Monetization Engineer. Middesk has reached a size where the complexity of our revenue-generation and collection systems requires full-time attention and iteration. You'll take care of tactical needs, and you'll help evolve our monetization systems to balance simplicity with sometimes complex customer pricing requirements.

This is how we see the role taking shape:

  • Own the monetization roadmap, including doing most of the requisite Engineering, and enlist support from other Engineering teams as needed.
  • Help Sales and Marketing shape our product-pricing structure by pushing to maintain invoicing-cycle simplicity while also meeting endemic pricing needs.
  • Partner with Finance and Sales and Marketing to understand then address important-and-urgent needs related to accounts receivable.
  • Ensure that invoicing cycles run smoothly each month. Address issues as they arise.
  • Understand our monetization strategy for all products, and create a roadmap that solves for them holistically.

While we're hiring a single Monetization Engineer now, you'll be supported by our Foundation Engineering team. And we'd like your help to shape the Monetization Engineering team as we expand it beyond one individual over the next year or so. Being the "only" means you'll not only spend time engineering, you'll also spend time acting as a pseudo-PM driving decisions around what's important and communicating progress with the company.

Some example projects we’ve completed recently or you may lead: Automate billing (as much as possible) via input to contract structure design, tooling recommendations / vendor analysis, and custom infrastructure (as required)

Build source of truth data tables of revenue, billing, contracts, usage in ways that other teams can easily query. E.g. use cases by team:

Finance:

  • Understand revenue trends to build accurate forecasts
  • Calculate lifetime value (LTV) to compare to acquisition cost (CAC) to ensure efficient investments in growth

Account Management:

  • Receive notification in response to changes in customer growth rates as soon as they happen to
  • Proactively identify opportunities to up-sell existing customers.
