Who We Are
Tovala’s Business Analytics team comprises mathematically inclined, skilled programmers with people skills. Our current team is 1 Business Analyst and 2 Senior Business Analysts. We also have 2 Data Engineers and a department head who oversees both Analytics and Engineering initiatives.
We are advocates for treating data as an asset. We establish and enforce good data governance practices. We understand and evangelize the significance of data lineage. We work with our stakeholders, vendors, and technology partners to ensure every decision-maker at Tovala is informed by timely, accurate, statistically grounded facts.
We work on cross-functional initiatives and take ownership of our data end-to-end. We write ELT, create dashboards, build predictive models, and re-engineer unscalable processes to increase both operational efficiency and data quality.
Who We’re Looking For
- Without falling back on tired cliches like ‘rockstar’, this is the kind of leader we’re looking for:
- We value humility, empathy, and intelligence - in that order.
- You should be a force multiplier for our team. Specifically, you should be a skilled technologist and statistician who can own analytics initiatives, collaborate with less technical stakeholders, coach the team to develop technical and people skills, and establish best practices around data management, version control, and business intelligence.
- You should be opinionated but open to changing your mind. You should focus on business value. You should have experience delivering quick wins while driving long-term strategy.
- Finally (and most importantly): Be your authentic self. Give us a chance to appreciate the person behind the job title. If your authentic self loves food, connected tech, and data, all the better!
Your Day to Day:
- Provide statistically backed insights to decision-makers across the business
- Identify and evangelize for business opportunities based on exploratory data analysis
- Mentor teammates on programming and statistical modeling techniques
- Tell compelling stories through accessible and relevant data visualizations
- Communicate priorities, resolve ambiguities, and coordinate timelines with stakeholders
- Assume ownership over team decisions (tooling, org structure, build vs buy, etc.)
- Partner with Data Engineers to establish and enforce best data governance practices
Requirements:
- Proficiency with SQL, Python, R, Looker, dbt, and git
- Advanced knowledge of statistical/econometric modeling
- Expertise in data warehousing, dimensional modeling, and data governance
- 5+ years in business analytics or related quantitative field
- B.A. or higher degree in a STEM field, or equivalent professional experience
