ABOUT THE TEAM

Designers are crucial to the success of H1. They participate in strategic decisions/solutions, lead the full lifecycle of their designs across all platforms, collaborate with product managers on strategy, participate in research to discover solutions and validate designs, and consult with engineering to make their ideas come to life. Our team is small and nimble, yet growing fast with backing of executive leadership. A “seat at the table” isn’t a question at H1, it’s implied in the organizational structure. Team leads from design, product, and tech drive product pods forward to achieve product goals and milestones.

WHAT YOU'LL DO AT H1

• Lead design of v1 experiences while planning and strategizing for future iterations.
• Develop high-level and/or detailed storyboards, mockups, animated videos, and prototypes to effectively communicate interaction and design ideas.
• Quickly iterate on multiple interactive design solutions and work through details.
• Advocate for your design solutions by putting them in context of business and user goals.
• Deliver work that's not only user-friendly and aesthetically engaging, but also produces business results.
• Work alongside engineers and product managers throughout all stages of the production cycle.
• Develop and maintain detailed user interface specifications, contributing to an overall shared design system.
• Effectively present design work and supporting thinking to stakeholders and senior leadership for review and feedback.
• Contribute to the group's shared knowledge of user-centered design and research methodologies.
• Lead others in setting direction and scoping work accurately in the face of ambiguity.

YOU

• You have experience and desire to work in a start-up style environment involving rapid iteration and user testing.
• You have demonstrated a history of acquiring user data (e.g., conducting usability studies, user interviews, contextual inquiry).
• You have the ability to drive the design review cycle and close on design requirements independently.
• Fluency in best practices for native mobile and web-based information architecture and design, as well as strong knowledge of usability principles and techniques.
• You rapidly-prototype to communicate your design solutions
• You collaborate with cross-functional peers, navigate the messy middle of the work, converging/diverging, assessing constraints and risk, and ultimately de-risking the ideal solution path.
• Deal effectively with ambiguity, change, and adapt appropriately to a range of situations
• You’re an incredible communicator and collaborator.
• You’re clear and concise in explaining your thought process and in enumerating the tradeoffs made in your work.
• You develop strong and effective working relationships with designers and cross-functional peers.
• You're proactive in seeking out mentorship, and are open and receptive to feedback (low ego)
• You’re flexible and willing to help where needed, even when it’s unexpected because you understand the greater goals and vision.
• You enjoy taking an active role in the development process.
• You collaborate with cross-functional peers to shape the experience roadmap for projects.
• You have experience working with a broader design team to identify opportunities to improve the utility, usability, and desirability of business-critical experiences.
• You have a growth mindset when it comes to increasing your own efficiency on planning, decision making, and pragmatic management of design debt.
• You are comfortable facilitating meetings and ensure all the voices in the room are heard

REQUIREMENTS

• You have 7+ years of professional experience designing experiences and design systems (this isn’t your first rodeo).
• You’re an incredible communicator and collaborator.
• You enjoy taking an active role in the development process.
• You have tactical experience and expertise in best practices with technical tool sets including...Figma, Material design language, cross-platform systems, WCAG compliance HTML/CSS & Data visualization libraries
• Bonus: Front-end development libraries (e.g. React)
