The Company
Boundary Layer Technologies is building the future of zero emission maritime transport, starting with hydrofoiling electric passenger vessels. We are backed by Y Combinator, Fifty Years VC and Lower Carbon Capital and have built a world leading 26' fully electric hydrofoil prototype. We are a company of builders where rapid iterations and fast learning is in our DNA.
We are looking for a Hydrodynamics / aerodynamics engineer to design and model the hydrofoil wings and propulsion system on our hydrofoil craft.
Responsibilities
- Concept design of hydrofoil wings and control surfaces on various vehicles, including high lift devices
- CFD modeling and optimisation of hydrofoil wings on various vehicles including a free surface, cavitation and ventilation
- Fluid-structural interaction optimisation of hydrofoil wings and masts
- CFD modeling of entire vehicle including wing-wing, wing-mast and ship hull interactions
- Determination of dynamic load cases for vehicle Collaborate with GNC and flight controls teams to help accurately develop a vehicle plant model for simulation
- CFD modeling and optimisation of propellers
Required skills and experience
- Degree in engineering or physics (advanced degrees preferred)
- 3 years experience in commercial CFD platforms such as StarCCM or ANSYS Fluent
- Experience in performing CFD driven geometry optimisation
- Experience in open source CFD platforms such as OpenFOAM and SU2 is a bonus but not required
- Experience in modeling water or hydrofoils, specifically cavitation is preferred but not essential
