Datafold exists to make working with data more enjoyable and productive. We are all about empowering data and analytics engineers. We find the most tedious, error-prone, and repetitive tasks and create tools to automate them. We make the world better by giving superpowers to data professionals who solve hard problems in various domains with data. We are fully remote and a highly technical team with deep expertise in the data domain. To date, Datafold raised $22M from top-tier investors, including YCombinator, NEA & Amplify Partners.
About the role:
Our major challenge in the UX and design is how to simplify the incredibly complex data ecosystems. For example, helping our users discover the needed dataset among 10,000+ that exist in their organization, or tracing the origins of particular data fields to ensure confirm quality. To solve these problems, we utilize advanced data visualizations and creatively adopt effective design patterns.
We are looking for an experienced design partner who will lead the user experience research, establish the design principles & guidelines to make our users work a delightful experience. You will inherit a team of 1 and although this role is a leadership position, you should be comfortable with doing some individual contributor work also.
What you will do:
Design delightful and effective user experiences
Develop deep empathy for our customers and use research to inform design decisions
Partner closely with founders – CEO (Product) and CTO (Engineering) to define the product direction
Collaborate with Engineering, Customer Success & Marketing to implement the best product experience
Influence our brand identity
What we're looking for:
You love tackling ambiguous, messy problems and simplifying complexity
You appreciate great tools and have an eye for awesome UX
You have experience in designing tools in the creativity, development or data domains
Are comfortable working in a remote, collaborative environment
Are opinionated yet humble and believe in making evidence-based (driven by analytics & user feedback) decisions
We are obsessed with productivity and are constantly on the look for the best tool for each problem (while keeping the number of tools to the minimum). So far some of the tooling choices we've made:
Figma over Adobe
Linear over Jira
Notion over Confluence
Slack over everything else :)

Please include a link to your online portfolio with your application - if you are currently in a leadership position, a portfolio from your individual contributor time is fine, you should also be able to talk about recent design work that your team has done.
