Head of AI

Moonvalley (moonvalley.ai) is the Midjourney for video. We are building the world’s most capable foundational models, allowing anyone to generate beautiful, cinematic and high-definition video in minutes.

We’re a small team of young & hungry researchers, and have raised over $30m from world class investors including Khosla Ventures & YCombinator. We released our first model two months ago, quickly becoming the fastest growing AI product on Discord since Midjourney with over 100,000 users in 6 weeks.

We believe generative video is the final frontier of generative AI.

What you'll do (responsibilities)

This is a foundational role in our company. The ideal candidate is a world class researcher, eager to take a hyper talented team of researchers and engineers, and a war chest of resources from the world’s best investors, to build the next great AI company.

As our Head of AI, you will be at the forefront of everything we do, shaping the future of how AI transforms video content creation. You’ll sit at the forefront of research and product, simultaneously working on the most cutting edge science and figuring out how to bring it to the world.

You'll work closely with the founders + an intentionally small but mighty team of researchers and technologists.

You should be comfortable working in a remote team environment that spans members located across 3 continents.

Here are examples of what you’ll do:

1. Lead Cutting-Edge Research: You will lead groundbreaking research in generative video AI, exploring uncharted territories in this field. Your work will lay down the foundational bricks for technologies that transform the video industry.
2. Drive Product Innovation: Beyond research, you will actively translate complex AI models into accessible and user-friendly products. Your vision will directly shape how creatives and professionals interact with AI to bring their visions to life.
3. Mentor and Grow Talent: As a leader, you will mentor a team of world-class AI researchers and engineers, fostering an environment of growth, innovation, and excellence. Your guidance will shape the next generation of AI experts.
4. Collaborate Across Continents: In our remote-first environment, you will collaborate with team members across three continents, embracing diverse perspectives and ideas to fuel innovation.
5. Strategic Decision Making: Play a critical role in strategic decisions, aligning research and development efforts with Moonvalley's long-term goals. Your insights will be instrumental in driving the company's direction and success.
6. Cultivate Partnerships: Build and maintain relationships with academic institutions, research bodies, and industry leaders to stay ahead of the curve and identify collaborative opportunities.

What we're looking for (qualifications)

To be considered for this position, you should have:

• MS/PhD in Computer Science, Mathematic or a related field with proven research experience in modern deep learning paradigms
• Citations or publications on major industry journals and/or conferences
• Minimum 3 years experience leading world-class, high performance research teams (ideally with business objectives in mind)
• Proven experience both researching + deploying frontier tech (i.e LLMs, image diffusion, etc.)
• Strong technical proficiency in AI and ML, capable of guiding complex project designs and implementations.
• Knowledge of architectural patterns for high-scale, complex AI applications.
• Track record of identifying, hiring, and developing top talent in the AI field.
• (Nice to have) Experience with latent diffusion models, autoregressive image generation, consistency models, etc.

As a small team going up against a field of Goliaths, we have to treat our work like an Olympic sport. Expect a lot of long nights and working weekends - we know this isn't for everyone, and we're up front and transparent about that.

This is a fully remote position with Moonvalley, and we welcome candidates from anywhere. However, we require that you be okay having an overlap with the rest of the team based in MENA working hours. We meet a few times every quarter, usually in a center-point between NA and India (like Dubai).

Salary for this role is USD 180,000 to USD 250,000 annually.
