Hands-on Engineering Manager

The Opportunity We're a Series A startup who have received over $9.5 million in funding from world-class tech investors including Mosaic, Crane & Y Combinator to back our vision. We've grown from 12 to nearly 30 employees and are now looking for an Hands-on Engineering Manager to help accelerate our growth.

You'll take full ownership of the products, technical leadership and work alongside the product management team and data-science team to deliver an awesome product for our customers. You'd be reporting to the CTO and co-founder.

This is the perfect role for someone who is looking to manage a small team of software developers while continuing to stay a hands-on.

Your role You'd be managing a team of currently five developers, this includes hiring, helping the team to grow, develop and follow the right processes. The team has a mix of experience, some are office-based and some are remote.

In addition to management you'd be the technical expert, go-to person for technical decisions and you'll spend half of your time developing the product: building features, maintaining the existing products and fixing bugs.

The product is formed of a web application, private and public APIs as well as an ERP integration. Our tech stack is Nodejs, AWS and React. We follow weekly sprints and use JIRA for day-to-day product management.

The Company Shipamax is building Stripe for back office automation in logistics organisations.

When goods are physically moved around the world, there can be up to 20 companies involved in the transaction. This is a complex and messy process, where different systems & teams have to collaborate to get the job done - creating a mountain of manual work.

Shipamax extracts data from logistics documents, and turns it into a standardised, machine-readable format. This saves companies hours of manual data entry, improves accuracy and frees up teams to focus on skilled, value-add activities.

Today, we provide plug & play automation to some of the world's largest logistics companies who are constrained by manual admin. We're already processing 20 million emails and attachments annually, but we're just getting started - our vision is to enable seamless orchestration of global trade.

Your background Significant experience (6+ years) in building and maintaining high-quality, robust and well architected software systems Some experience with Javascript or Typescript for either frontend or backend Initial experience (1+ years) in managing software developers Experience with professional software development processes Degree in Computer science or degree in another science Values We're a highly ambitious team of ~30 mainly based in London.
