To our customers, Formal feels like magic, but under the hood, it’s a reverse proxy that speaks datastore protocols (such as Postgres, S3, Kafka) to inspect every single query and modify query results in real time.
Founded last year, we already have paying customers (Ramp, Trialspark, Modern Health) and strong traction.

About the role
As a Frontend Software Engineer at Formal, you will play a pivotal role in shaping our product and contributing to the growth of our company. With our vision of building a data operating system, the frontend development is at the heart of our strategy. This is an exciting opportunity for you to make a significant impact and be involved in various aspects of product development.
This role is full-time and open to remote candidates. Formal also has an NYC office in the heart of Silicon Alley.

- Go and Rust for the backend
- AWS, GCP, Azure and Terraform for the cloud
- React and TypeScript for the Frontend
What you will do
- Building the V2 of our web application.
- Continuously improve the performance and reliability of our frontend application, optimizing code and identifying areas for enhancement.
- Enhance existing features by incorporating user feedback and implementing improvements to usability and design.
- Take ownership of the frontend architecture, ensuring scalability, maintainability, and adherence to best practices.
- Recruiting your future team members and coach them to help them grow
- Leading any initiative you think may have a strong impact on Formal
Who you are
- 3+ years of relevant software development industry building data-intensive software platforms
- Proven experience as a Frontend Software Engineer or similar role, with a strong portfolio showcasing your frontend development skills.
- Proficient in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, with expertise in modern frontend frameworks such as React, Vue.js, or Angular.
- Experience in building scalable, responsive, and cross-browser compatible web applications.
- Solid understanding of frontend development principles, including performance optimization, code modularity, and accessibility.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to tackle complex technical challenges with innovative solutions.
- Excellent collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams.
Bonus points:
- Leadership qualities with a desire to take initiative and drive impactful projects.
- Extensive experience designing applications on Figma.
