Overview
As our Founding Frontend Engineer, you'll own Response's frontend codebase -- implementing major product updates, refactoring or rewriting our codebase, resolving time-sensitive and critical bugs, and leveling up our frontend development practices.
Why now?
We're rapidly expanding our customer base at Response and need a team member fully dedicated to all things frontend. We'd like to deliver on our customers' expectations without delay or compromise, whilst being more attentive to the integrity of our codebase.
Responsibilities
(1) Implementing major product updates
As our Founding Frontend Engineer, you'll be on the frontlines advancing the capabilities of our product. With each major update, you'll be shipping new features for a traditionally-underserved industry that deliver tangible value to our customers.
(2) Refactoring or rewriting our codebase
Embrace the code maestro within you! You'll help revitalize and reshape our core interface by applying industry best practices, modern frameworks, and the latest libraries to supercharge performance and deliver an unsurpassed user experience.
(3) Resolving time-sensitive and critical bugs
While we try our best to proactively test new features, bugs inevitably slip through. You'll be our go-to specialist and collaborate with our Product team to prioritize, diagnose, and fix critical bugs reported by our customers.
Once you're onboarded, we'll work together to refine these outcomes to make them measurable and time-bound. We'll also create a set of learning outcomes that align with your personal and professional growth goals.
What we're looking for
- Solid production experience in developing and implementing web applications,
- High proficiency with React.js and TypeScript,
- Adaptability -- able to switch directions and acquire the necessary skills to tackle unique challenges
- Independence -- thrives in ambiguity and can work autonomously.
What excites us
These are not requirements - it simply isn't realistic to expect all of these from one person. We would be delighted even if you have just one or two:
- A strong track record of building interesting projects,
- Experience with Python (we currently utilize Django), and PostgreSQL,
- Experience with the Linux command line and system administration,
- Previous founding or startup experience,
- Realistic problem-solving approach - thoughtfully considers the tradeoffs between speed and polish to achieve the "90/10" solution,
- Awareness of real-world impact - realize that we have an impact on the users, businesses, and stakeholders who interact with our technology,
- Actively follows the latest frontend technologies and news,
- Genuine curiosity and desire for feedback.
