Zillow meets TikTok! Playhouse is a new mobile app for browsing video listings of homes for sale - it’s fun and addictive like TikTok, but also practical and actionable like Zillow. We’re a Y Combinator funded startup that’s also backed by founders from Youtube, Twitch, Rotten Tomatoes, and more. Join us to help build THE destination for mobile real estate video!
About the role 🚀
This is a unique opportunity to join as a leading member of the founding team. You will be instrumental in bringing our first mobile app to market and establishing the foundations for its future growth.
Your responsibilities 💪
- Work hand in hand with our technical CEO and the rest of the team to prioritize and execute on our product roadmap
- Help establish and follow the long-term technical vision for our mobile app, while making the right calls on short-term compromises
- Collaborate with UX design team on achievable designs that deliver a world class consumer experience for real estate
- Help establish best practices (frameworks, testing, CI, code reviews, etc) to lay the foundation for a high performing technology team and its culture
About you 💁
Startup fit 🚀
You know what you're getting into.
- You understand the startup mindset. You're comfortable with uncertainty and love quick iterations to build, learn and refine. You're used to having few resources, but can be decisive, nimble and impactful. You understand that growth is life for a startup.
- You have an ownership mentality and experience with that type of ownership over a core aspect of the product (product design, technical architecture, infra, key features, etc). You want more responsibility and accountability doesn't scare you.
- You've worked effectively in a small and tight-knit team. You expect a lot from your teammates and lead by example.
- You're comfortable with having little existing structure (CI/CD, refined roadmaps, etc), but you've built it all before yourself or know how it's done.
- You're eager to drive impact with minimal oversight. Micro-management is the antithesis of what you're about and you expect the same of others around you.
- You love product and you're eager to meet customers to develop an empathetic understanding of their problems to ensure we're building the right solutions.

About Playhouse 🏘️
Playhouse is a seed-stage funded startup building a next generation real estate discovery platform. Our first product is a video driven mobile app for browsing real estate listings (like TikTok for real estate) and we are currently in public beta in the SF Bay Area. We are going after a $20B opportunity that is dominated by outdated portals with photoshopped pictures and mobile apps that are an extension of the desktop experience.
We recently graduated from Y Combinator's Summer 21 batch and are backed by amazing investors across consumer technology, real estate and entertainment. Playhouse was also recently featured on Product Hunt and TechCrunch (1, 2).
The company was founded by Alex Perelman and Nathan Shinder, who previously worked together at PeerStreet, a real estate investment platform, where Alex was the co-founder/CTO and Nathan (a licensed realtor) developed and launched new loan products, and together they helped grow the company to over $4B in total sales.
We are committed to building a world-class team that will change how people discover real estate and find their next home.
Current tech stack 🏄
Node.js, React, React Native, Typescript, GraphQL, Postgres, Next.js, Terraform, AWS, Heroku, Vercel and more. Always open to fresh ideas that help us deliver customer value even faster.
Why join Playhouse? 🌼
Make an impact: The founding team is absolutely crucial for delivering on our mission. By joining early, you will help shape the foundations of the company - its technology, people, process and culture. You will make outsized impact in a critical role.
Take ownership: You will be part of the decision making process. It may be a cliche that everyone wears multiple hats, but that's truly how it is at this early stage (we've been there!). Every member of the founding team should be thinking about our customers, our product, our burn and our goals when making decisions.
Elevate your education: You get to work directly with experienced and formidable YC founders. In additional to the usual challenges in your line of work, you'll also have the front row seat for learning how to build a company across all functions and connect the dots back to your contributions.
Make an investment: Your time is limited and precious, and a wise investment has the right balance of risk and return. As an early member of the team, you get all of the above and you'll stand to gain substantially if we succeed in our mission and build a valuable business.
And last but not least, we also offer:
- Competitive salary and equity
- Medical insurance
- Remote-first culture
- Flexible work schedule
