Hi! I’m Alexandra, the founder of Rubber Ducky Labs. Rubber Ducky Labs is building out our founding team, and we’re looking for a data scientist who is incredibly excited to dive into recommender systems and work with customers to answer the questions “Is my recommender system working?” and “How can I make it better?”

About the role

Your primary role is to become a domain expert in evaluating recommender systems. This will require a combination of data science, technical skills, and strong communication.

Your secondary role is to work with the Rubber Ducky Labs team to turn the repeatable parts of recommender systems analysis into tools.

Example job responsibilities include:

  • Working with both executives and machine learning engineers to design an appropriate set of metrics for online recommender systems evaluation
  • Clustering and segmenting the users of a recommender system
  • Dogfooding the Rubber Ducky Labs product, and giving honest feedback
  • Hosting an internal tech talk or writing internal documentation to teach teammates about recommender systems concepts
  • Communicating directly with customers

Our Tech Stack

  • Frontend: React, Typescript, Mantine, Chart.js
  • Backend: Python, Fast API, SQLAlchemy, Postgres
  • Infra: Docker, AWS
  • Data analysis: Python, jupyter notebooks, pandas, scikit-learn

Minimum requirements

  • 1+ years of industry experience in a data science or data analyst role
  • Prior experience evaluating production recommender systems, search, or other information retrieval systems
  • Comfortable navigating ambiguous requirements like “I want to know if my recommender system is working or not” or “should I launch this experiment”
  • Familiarity with common metrics across recommender systems, e-commerce applications, and general consumer applications
  • Excellent SQL skills, not afraid to dive into new types of databases / data analytics systems (Postgres, BigQuery, Redis, Snowflake, Clickhouse)
  • Knowledge of machine learning, data science, statistics, and data visualization
  • Proficient in common Python-based data science tools such as Jupyter notebooks and pandas
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Strong growth mindset, and desire to constantly learn

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience working directly with executive-level stakeholders
  • History of sharing work and teaching others, such as blog posts, meetups, or conference talks
