About the role
Humanly is looking for software engineering leaders with a diverse set of ideas and a versatile skill set. We need those with great leadership qualities that can manage project priorities in a highly collaborative and cross-functional environment, and can use their expertise to think innovatively and deliver high quality software end-to-end.
As an engineering manager you will be responsible for building, managing, and leading our talented team of software engineers. You will play a crucial role in driving project execution, mentoring and coaching engineers, and hiring and onboarding new talent. You will promote and protect our culture of collaboration and continual improvement, ultimately removing friction for engineers so they can focus on delivering high quality products.
The engineering manager will report directly to the CTO and be required to commute to the Seattle, WA office weekly.

What you'll do
- Work directly with the CTO to drive development execution through prioritization and schedule planning, product requirement scoping, backlog and technical debt curation, and project coordination amongst cross-functional teams
- Participate in and lead engineering team meetings
- Talk one-on-one regularly with engineers to listen to their concerns, deliver feedback on performance, and ensure they are engaged and productive
- Deliver formal performance reviews to engineers in order to track excellence and areas of improvement
- Oversee cycle retrospectives to identify what works well and what doesn't, how we can improve, and ways to remove roadblocks
- Lead the rest of the team in hiring new software engineers through screening resumes, conducting interviews, and evolving our hiring process
- Collaborate with the entire Humanly team to continuously improve our products, services, and processes
Who you are
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience
- Highly experienced in software development with a focus on building scalable and reliable solutions
- Experienced as a leader overseeing a team of software engineers
- Excellent teamwork, interpersonal, and communication skills
- Self-motivated and detail oriented
- Knowledgeable of software engineering methodologies, programming languages, tooling, and frameworks
Bonus skills
- Software architecture and design skills
- Experience with Elixir, Elm, or other functional programming languages
- Familiarity with cloud environments (ex: Azure, AWS, GCP) and DevOps practices
