We are seeking a Director of People who will scale our team from 10 to approximately 35 A-players and run the HR function.
What you will do
Reporting directly to the CEO and Co-Founder, the Director of People is responsible for providing HR expertise and leadership across various areas including talent strategy, learning & development, compensation and benefits, culture, DEI, and employee relations. The Director of People will also be a member of the Executive Leadership Team (ELT). As the company grows, you will build this critical function, hiring and developing talent within the team.
Talent Strategy (Talent Acquisition, Development, and Retention)

Develop and drive the overall talent acquisition strategy, ensuring the hiring of best-in-class talent who align with the mission and culture

Run all aspects of the recruitment process and onboarding, and ensure effective collaboration between hiring managers

Develop a comprehensive talent retention program

Remain current on industry trends to ensure company remains competitive and is viewed as an employer of choice
Leadership

Provide leadership and guidance to the organization on all human resources matters

Partner with the ELT to align the company’s current and future organizational structure to achieve corporate objectives

Build relationships with all team members and serve as a trusted advisor
Learning & Development / Organizational Effectiveness

Develop and implement performance management and talent development practices, including leadership coaching

Develop and administer a comprehensive performance review process
Additional Responsibilities:

Champion and lead the development and implementation of comprehensive Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) strategies, fostering an inclusive workplace culture, and driving initiatives that promote diversity at all levels of the organization

Lead initiatives to strengthen our company culture and enhance employee experience

Spearhead comprehensive compensation and remuneration strategies

Manage all employee relations issues

Design and implement HR systems, inclusive policies, procedures, and strategies

Partner with the CEO to oversee organizational headcount budget and people related costs

Evaluate, select, and deploy technology solutions as required

This role has one direct report, with the opportunity to build a team as the company grows
Who you are
What will help you succeed in this role:
-
You led HR or the Talent Acquisition function at a series A-stage technology startup that went on to become a unicorn or you reported directly to the person that led these functions at such a company

Strong track record in recruiting highly technical, top-tier talent in areas such as machine learning, engineering, and bioinformatics

A strategic business partner and trusted leader
-
Experience fostering an inclusive culture and maintaining engagement
-
Exceptional written, verbal, and empathetic communication skills
Some things that are preferred but not required (or you will learn on the job):

Experience building an HR function

Strong understanding of legal and regulatory requirements, including EEO/AAP, federal and state labor standards, and other relevant laws. Ensure all policies and procedures as required by law, are in place

The salary range for this role is $143,000-$182,000 annually. Actual compensation offered will depend on several factors including but not limited to: work experience, education, skill level, and/or other business and organizational needs.
This is a hybrid role that will require working on-site 3 days a week in San Francisco. Local candidates only. Relocation is not offered for this role.
