About UPchieve
UPchieve is an edtech nonprofit that provides free, 24/7 online tutoring and college counseling to low-income high school students in the U.S. Using our app, students can request and get paired with a live, volunteer tutor in under 5 minutes. Our mission is to democratize access to academic support so that all students have an equal opportunity to finish high school, attend college, and achieve upward mobility. So far, we’ve matched 100,000+ on-demand tutoring requests from 30,000+ students across all 50 states. We’re a small team taking on the monumental challenge of democratizing access to academic support. That means we need team members who are excited by autonomy and willing to work on projects outside the scope of their job description if needed. Regardless of role, we also look for candidates who have a personal connection to our cause or a demonstrable interest in education or serving low-income populations.

Job Description
About the role
The Director of Growth Marketing will lead strategy and execution to help us reach our ambitious goal of reaching all 8 million low-income high school students by 2030. Your sole objective will be to grow UPchieve’s sign ups among students as quickly as possible. You will build on UPchieve’s success in reaching students via SEO, social, and paid advertising and most importantly, discover new, scalable channels for UPchieve to reach more students. You will work on a cross-functional team of engineers, marketers, and generalists to achieve this ambitious goal. The results of your experiments on this team are expected to multiply UPchieve’s ability to reach students, and thus you’ll have direct influence over everything from marketing channels, to product, to partnership strategy.

How you’ll spend your time...
Discover new acquisition channels for UPchieve (75% of your time)
- Collaborate with a cross-functional team to design and implement well-thought-out experiments aimed at acquiring as many students as possible within a short timeframe.
- Depending on your experience, take the lead or serve as the marketing expert on the team, demonstrating a deep understanding of marketing channels, strategies, and their application for acquiring new users at UPchieve.
- Swiftly execute marketing tests, such as landing pages, email campaigns, paid and organic social media, SEO, traditional ads, and even partnerships. Interpret results and adjust strategies accordingly. Lead the strategy to maintain and improve UPchieve’s existing acquisition channels (25% of your time)
Set and manage UPchieve’s marketing budget
- Lead the development and implementation of strategy for UPchieve’s SEO and content marketing
- Improve upon and maintain UPchieve’s google adwords
- Improve upon and maintain UPchieve’s organic social and social ad strategies
Preferred Experience
We’re looking for someone who...
- Has experience either as the first or only marketer on a small team, in any relevant role scaling a tech startup, or another highly entrepreneurial position
- Has 5+ years of broad marketing experience. Ideally this person has experience in some of the following areas (we don’t expect you to have experience with all of them!): Ads (social, adwords, traditional), SEO/ content marketing, Community marketing, Word-of-mouth, Email marketing, Social media, Business development, PR
- Highly competent measuring the success of their experiments via analytics
- Know a lot about product-channel fit and using discovery methods to find and optimize it
- Has a bias towards action and is resourceful
- Is a strong writer capable of appealing to our high school student population
