The role
- As a Deployment Engineer, you'll work directly with Heron's highest-value customers. You'll ensure that prospects have a good experience trialling our product, and that they can use it seamlessly as they become customers. More broadly, you sit at the intersection between customers, customer success, engineering, and product. Your goal is to use your technical knowledge to ensure that customers get the most value out of Heron Data.
- As part of this work, you'll be the first technical Heron to learn about the pain points and needs of prospective customers. This will allow you to have an important voice in influencing Heron's product direction, making sure that the needs of prospective customers are taken into account.
- You will take ownership over the interfaces that guide our customers in implementing Heron (e.g., tutorials, API docs, etc.). This will allow you to scale yourself, ensuring you focus your work on the most complicated and ambiguous questions.
What we're looking for
This role could be ideal for someone with a technical background who would like to move into a Product role or otherwise gain more exposure to customers, Sales or Customer Success.
Above all else, we value people who have a growth mindset and who want to make an impact in their work. We list below some thoughts on the responsibilities that an ideal candidate will grow into, and we don't expect you to be experienced in all the below before applying / joining. If in doubt, reach out to us!
-
Strong technical background
- You have implemented APIs before and have experience developing software applications
- Bonus: You have experience in front-end development
- You're able to communicate technical concepts effectively
- You enjoy breaking down problems into smaller, solvable components
-
You enjoy working independently
- You're able to organise your work and define what has to be achieved to reach a certain goal without tight supervision
- You take the initiative! If you feel like you have identified a trip/initiative/call/change that will help you reach your objectives, you go for it.
- If you’re interested in a highly-structured environment with a large peer group of people doing similar work, this role may not be right for you
-
You care about customer impact
- You're fact-driven and measure the real impact of your work
- You’re used to working towards objectives, and measuring your work using qualitative and quantitative data
-
Work in an fast-paced, high-growth, team-based environment
- You’re entrepreneurial. This means having a growth mindset, finding problems without being told about them, thinking independently about issues and clearly advocating your position, and taking full ownership of your work, even if things go wrong
- You’re a team player. You understand that growing a company requires functioning teams and processes, and you’re interested in constantly improving processes
How we work
- As an early employee, you’ll get to work directly with the founders and early team on one of the highest company priorities: Making sure that our customers implement Heron well when they first interact with us.
- We promote an outcome-focused, low-bureaucracy, engineering-first work environment with an emphasis on delivering customer impact at high velocity.
