In-person - Walnut Creek, CA (Bay Area)
Gridware is on a mission to create a future without wildland fires. We’re a startup building hardware and software that monitors the power grid to prevent and detect faults that lead to wildfire ignition. (More about Gridware below).
To make that happen, we’re currently looking for an enthusiastic data scientist who is detail oriented and interested in working in a fast-paced, mission critical environment. You will be the first to know when our device fleets detect critical power line faults and design data-driven decision frameworks to address real-time events.
Why do we need you?
We’re at an exciting point where we are ramping up field deployments of our power grid monitoring devices and are establishing cutting-edge data analysis processes to ingest large quantities of time-series data in answering critical questions about the grid. As the first line of visibility into ground-truth field data, we rely on data scientists to detect and understand patterns or anomalies originating from deployed systems. This insight directly informs our core product, research direction, design decisions, and operations tactics.
Responsibilities
- Analyze real-time data from large fleets of devices that have been installed on real-world electric grids to understand electro-physical faults and phenomena
- Aggregate and catalogue insight over long time horizons to summarize grid environment and reoccuring signals
- Develop intelligence models and decision flows to detect faults that can lead to outages or wildfire ignitions
- Collaborate with engineering and management teams to design round-the-clock monitoring capabilities by defining standard operating procedures and staffing requirements
- Work with our software engineers to design, create, and test new software capabilities to enhance our ability to monitor the grid
Requirements:
- 2+ years of professional experience with data analysis and physical systems
- B.S. in engineering or physics
- Strong familiarity with python and git
- Comfortable working in a Linux environment
- A passion for working in a fast-paced environment and hands-on development and testing
- Highly motivated, self-starting, and able to perform duties without supervision
Application
Although we do not require candidates to submit a cover letter, candidates who wish to have their application stand out are invited to write a cover letter outlining one or all of the following things in a bullet-point format:
- Why you are interested in joining Gridware
- What skills you have that makes you the perfect candidate for this role
Benefits
We offer competitive benefits that help employees to thrive and grow. These benefits include:
- Stock option plan
- An attractive salary
- Health, Dental and Vision insurance
- Free parking and a commuter allowance (we're across the street from BART)
- 401K
- Company-paid training to upgrade your skills
