Job Description:
At Tovala, we are developing data as a core competency. We are excited for what expanding access to data can do for our company.
As members of the Data Engineering team, we strive to provide clean, validated, well-modeled data for analytics and business-critical processes. We are heavily aligned with the Business Analytics team, which delivers insights and forecasts to our stakeholders. Our priorities are explicitly set to drive ROI at the company level.
Our business has grown exponentially over the last two years and we need more engineers to put their own stamp on the foundations that we have built!
About you:
- Without falling back on tired phrases like ‘rockstar’, this is the kind of engineer we are looking for:
- We value humility, accountability, and intelligence - in that order.
- You are good at facilitating communication between non-technical and technical folks to develop an implementation strategy. You enjoy solving problems collaboratively with others.
- You should be able to articulate The Perfect Implementation but understand how to trim the fat and deliver an imperfect (yet useful) MVP. You should have a sense of what can be jettisoned but hold your ground on things that shouldn’t be.
- You should enjoy architecting and implementing greenfield systems. You will be encouraged to mix and match tools as relevant to the use-case.
- Finally (and most importantly): Be your authentic self. Give us a chance to appreciate the person behind the job title. If you authentic self is a foodie who reads version release notes in your spare time, that's a bonus!
Your Day to Day:
- Develop and maintain data pipeline infrastructure
- Extract and transform data from a variety of sources and formats and load into our data lake and warehouse
Scope, design, and implement scalable solutions to replace business-critical manual processes
- (De)normalize unstructured/semi-structured data for downstream analysis
- Collaborate with upstream data generators to ensure that data is compatible with analytics use cases
- Collaborate with Business Analysts to design and maintain a single source of truth
Requirements:
- Advanced SQL skills (preference given to SnowSQL)
- Advanced Python skills
- Expertise in data warehousing, dimensional modeling, and data governance
- Familiarity with dbt
- Familiarity with AWS (EC2, S3, Lambda, IAM, Security Groups, ElasticSearch)
- Experience using Jenkins
- Experience using version control (git, bitbucket, etc.)
- Experience building and using REST APIs to transfer data across systems
