Chief of Staff

SiPhox is a high-impact startup in Burlington, MA integrating microfluidics, biochemistry and Silicon Photonics to miniaturize proteomics. Silicon Photonics is a platform technology for optics miniaturization that has revolutionized the data center industry over the last two decades. SiPhox’s photonic chips enable us to provide 100x smaller, 100x lower cost, highly scalable, multiplexed diagnostics.

Founded in February 2020, SiPhox has expanded into an over 7000 sq. ft. lab & office space, raised $8.5 million (seed round, from backers such as Y-combinator and Khosla Ventures), and we are tirelessly working to scale our team and bring our product to market.

Chief of Staff:

SiPhox is seeking an entrepreneurial Chief of Staff that is a connoisseur of problem solving and passionate about creating technology which will make the world a better place. You’ll gain significant exposure to the founders, observing the business from a unique vantage point.

You recognize where processes can be improved, and take the initiative to improve them, end-to-end.
• You’re comfortable interacting across the organization at all levels, from senior leaders to interns. You’re a team player, and relish collaborating with colleagues across the org.
• You are not a researcher per se, but you can hold your own in a technical discussion.
• While you thrive in ambiguity, you’re highly organized, detail-oriented and are passionate about designing and implementing processes to keep everyone on track and grow a global business.

Your First Challenge: Hire top tier scientists as technical leads for a brand-new team. Revamp Siphox's online presence. Build a plan to cultivate company culture as we scale.

Minimum Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree
• Ability to communicate and work closely with scientists and engineers
• Ability to think strategically and prioritize. A lot will be flying at you, and you need to balance

Additional Qualifications:

• Science literate and hard science background a plus (biotechnology/chemistry/physics/engineering/nanotech)
• Experience in an operations role at a deep tech startup
• Experience hiring, onboarding, and managing a team
• Thrive in a dynamic environment. The nature of this job will change every 6 months as the business and team grow and your focus is on the next frontier
• Knowledge or curiosity for all aspects of business - research, marketing, fundraising, sales, supply chain, etc.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• High EQ, ability to read between the lines of the organization
• Ambition to one day have your own startup

Duties and Responsibilities:

• The key component of this job is rotating through ownership of small and medium-sized business operations functions. As these functions scale to require a full-time owner, you will help hire that person and then move on to own new functions, and repeat
• Build and lead a world-class administrative team that takes care of the day-to-day operations of the company (read: project management, budget and planning, office management) leaving technical leads free to work on bringing our product to market
• Hire >30 employees over the next 24 months
• Implement creative sourcing strategies to identify the best talent for Siphox
• Enhance our recruiting processes to ensure a great experience for candidates and increased pipeline efficiency
• Cultivate and maintain strong candidate pipelines to support teams’ short- and long-term hiring goals through a wide range of networking, social media outreach, referrals, and more
• Internal communications. Schedule and organize team or one-on-one meetings to track progress of projects
• External communications. Able to draft communications or directly write to customers, investors, and press
• Briefings and reports for the CEO and executives to keep the team well-informed and able to make high-quality decisions
• Own internal documentation, keep team-wide documentation organized
• Ownership of patents and grants filing processes
• Lead high-priority projects alongside the CEO related to hiring, fundraising, PR, etc.

Please note: this is a fully in-person role that requires overtime hours.
