As an antenna test engineer at Astranis, you will be responsible for developing, designing, and implementing tests of the antenna systems on our spacecraft, including payload and TTC. This includes not only the antennas themselves, but the feed networks and various waveguide runs and components. You'll prove that our designs work across environments to guarantee success on orbit. You’ll develop our test plans and procedures to accurately measure antenna patterns, passive intermodulation distortion, isolation, loss, and more. The antenna systems are some of the most critical systems to overall mission success, and are rapidly evolving to increase payload capabilities as the company grows!

Role:
- Accurately measure antenna patterns, passive intermodulation, isolation, loss
- Ensure hardware performs over frequencies, power levels, temperature, and over lifetime in a radiation environment
- Performance characterization and calibration of custom Astranis hardware as well as compliance testing of vendor hardware
- Work closely with antenna and RF design engineers to plan testing, debug issues, and communicate performance
- Procure test equipment including adapters, loads, signal sources, network analyzers, power supplies, and amplifiers etc.
- Help to procure and qualify anechoic and PIM chambers
- Develop and maintain test automation code in Python
- Assist in recruiting, interviewing, and hiring additional teammates to our rapidly-growing team.
Requirements:
- Bachelor of Science degree in EE, CS (or equivalent background knowledge)
- Experience working with RF test equipment (network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, signal generators, amplifiers, etc)
- Experience with Python (or other high-level scripting languages)
- Experience in test automation
- 2+ years of experience working in a hardware environment
Bonus:
- 2+ years of experience testing antenna related hardware
- Strong grasp of digital communications concepts
- Experience with bash/tcl (or similar shell-level scripting languages)
- Strong proficiency with Linux and command-line tooling
- Enjoy writing robust code
- Enjoy root causing issues and problem solving
- Experience designing RF PCBs using Altium or similar
