About The Role
An AI Engineer is a software engineer who uses a mix of software engineering, prompt engineering, and machine learning, to build modern day software applications. The ideal candidate for this role has extensive software engineering experience paired with a strong interest in understanding how LLMs work, and a strong interest in learning how to incorporate LLMs into traditional software applications via prompt engineering.

As an AI Engineer, your core responsibility will be to improve the accuracy of our AI Tutor mobile app across various different subjects (particularly math). Your toolset will be a creative mix of prompt engineering, software engineering, and fine-tuning of LLMs.
This is a role that is nascent within the industry and barely anyone holds it today. However, our founding team has unique experience in AI Engineering from having partnered closely with OpenAI during the alpha phase of GPT4 in 2022. So one perk of this job is you will be learning from world-class experts.
Engineering Responsibilities
At the end of the day, your most important responsibility will be to systematically increase the accuracy of our app's ability to solve math problems.
You'll do this through a mix of front-end and back-end coding, prompt engineering, data engineering, and fine-tuning. You will be using bleeding edge LLM technology (e.g. GPT4, GPT4-32K, GPT4 Functions API) that often will have little-to-no information on how to use them on the internet, so you will need to pioneer best practices yourself. If this sounds exciting to you...please apply.
Culture
We are a tight knit team and we bring our full selves to work. We try to make that possible by fostering a culture of openness, transparency, and collaboration. We like working on problems with social impact. The average person spends 90,000 hours at work over their lifetime and we think it's important to spend that time working on problems you enjoy solving, with people you enjoy solving them with.
Location/Remote Work
We're based in San Francisco and prefer candidates who are based in the bay area but are open to remote candidates from other regions as well.
