About Qlo
Qlo uses AI to automate everything in underwriting except the decision, from submission to renewal, for commercial MGAs and program admins.
We're a YC S26 company. Our first enterprise customer has been live in production since May 2026.
Who we are
Qlo is built by Ryan and Liv. Ryan spent over two years building product directly inside the insurance industry, including a commercial insurance marketplace, where he worked closely with players across the value chain, sat in on underwriting reviews, and saw firsthand how much of an underwriter's day disappears into manual data entry and fragile spreadsheets. He started Qlo to fix the underwriting workflow itself. Liv previously built scalable cloud and backend infrastructure and drove AI adoption across teams, and now leads how Qlo builds as an AI-native company.
We landed our first enterprise customer before we ever raised money, and they run live quotes on Qlo in production every day. We're a small, AI-native team building the agents that operate the company today into the product we ship tomorrow.
The role
We already have a working product built on a shadcn foundation with an established information architecture modeled on our enterprise customer. The product is evolving fast and has accumulated some inconsistency. Your job is to bring system and consistency to something that already exists, while we keep shipping.
We're looking for a design-led product builder who starts from real user needs and ships the product themselves. You'll own the full product experience: UX, design system, and the actual working frontend, built with modern AI tooling.
This is an in-person role. You'll work side by side with a founder, either in Taiwan or in the US.
This is not a 9-to-6 role or a role with clear work-life boundaries right now. The team regularly works well beyond standard hours, often 12-plus hour days including weekends, and we're transparent about this up front so there are no surprises. If you want predictable hours or are optimizing for balance at this stage of your life, this isn't the right fit yet, and that's completely okay.
For the right person who thrives at this pace, there's a real path into the founding team, based on how we work together.
What you'll do:
- Own the end to end product experience, from user needs to shipped UI, for a complex, data-dense product (web)
- Use our design system as the engine to build customized screens for different customers: because everything comes from the design system, each customer's product stays visually consistent while you ship their customizations fast. You'll produce screens (in Figma or in code) to discuss with customers, iterate through their feedback, and build the finalized design into the product
- Systematize a live product with some accumulated inconsistency: audit what exists on top of our shadcn foundation and information architecture, extract reusable patterns and tokens, and converge it into a coherent design system
- Bring product and PM judgment: decide what to build, why, and in what order, working directly with the founders
- Ship working frontend yourself using AI tools (Claude Code, vibe coding, and similar) alongside our React, TypeScript, and Tailwind stack
- Move fast and iterate weekly
Must-haves
- Deep, hands-on expertise with design systems, and specifically experience using a design system to scale: building or extending one so it can produce many consistent variations quickly, not just enforce consistency within a single product
- A track record of shipping fast with a design system: turning it into an engine that produces customized, visually consistent screens, rather than designing one product from scratch
- Comfortable inheriting a product with legacy decisions and history, and disciplined about not redoing work twice
- Can ship frontend yourself, via code or AI tooling, not design files alone
- Strong product and PM thinking, able to make product decisions independently
- Scrappy, autonomous, and excited to own the whole thing at the earliest stage
Nice-to-haves
- Shipped AI or AIGC product features, or built workflows with AI agents
- Early-stage or first-designer experience (0 to 1)
- Comfortable with complex or enterprise B2B products (bonus: fintech or insurance)
What we offer
- High ownership from day one, you'll define how Qlo's product looks and feels
- Meaningful early equity, discussed openly and early in the process, just like we're upfront about the work
- The speed and impact of building with the founders
