About the role
We’re hiring a founding designer at Tella. If that’s you, then you’ll be the first actual designer to join the team.
We started Tella in Summer 2020 and since then I’ve done all the design. The problem is that I’m not a designer. I’ve just been making it up as I go. I’ll explain why this is important in a moment.
Now don’t get me wrong, I’m proud of Tella’s design, but you’re going to make it way better.
You’ll get to fine tune what already works — and our customers love — but you’ll also invent brand new things, fix broken things, and polish rough edges.
Once you’re onboard I’ll continue to work on design, but you’ll take the lead.
You should be someone that me and the rest of the team can learn from — I expect you to set the bar really high.
OK so why is the I’m not a designer thing important?
We “faked it” with design long enough and now as a company we’re starting to make it. But to really make it, we need to be the real thing: great design, attention to detail, and storytelling needs to be in every aspect of the product and brand.
So you should be a great designer, but you should be willing to push the extra 30% to make Tella a company that other great designers want to join too.
We’re growing fast and our customers love us. We’re solving difficult engineering and UX problems. So it’s going to be a big, fun, and fast moving job.
— Grant, cofounder of Tella

About Tella
We’re building the screen recorder that edits videos for you. Today we help startups, creators, and small businesses transform things that happen on their screen into professional video content that helps grow their businesses. Think: high-production Loom videos.
We’ve built our own video renderer. It renders videos of any duration, with as many edits and effects as you want, nearly instantly. This means we can dramatically cut down the time it takes to create a video.
Our mission is to amplify the world’s ideas with video. Video is this incredible medium that even in 2024 is under-utilised. But the technology is catching up and video tools no longer need to be derivations of complex video editing software. So while today we focus on screen recordings, soon we’ll move into new kinds of video.
Come join us building the future of video at work!
