With the on-going development and deployment of more and more properties across Malaysia, it is not surprising for more startups to join the foray of Property-related services.
Recently we had a chance to get in touch with Magdelin Tan, General Manager of PropSocial - An interactive property website that enables property buyers, investors, sellers, and tenants to interact with each other to resolve their property concerns, property needs, and for experts to easily offer advise online.
Magdelin, who was also the former general manager of property portal Propwall (which was acquired by The Star Media Group), joined PropSocial in 2015. 2 years later, the team of 12 today aim to bring PropSocial to newer heights.
Focused on the sharing economy coupled with data-driven solutions, PropSocial is the first community-based social property website in Malaysia that gives real insights and unbiased user reviews to their users.
PropSocial is also the first property website that has content in Chinese language, catered to increasing number of website visitors from Chinese-speaking backgrounds.
There are many features that make PropSocial stand out, but one of the most notable things about them is how they visually represent Neighbourhood and Property Information to the end users with the use of enormous amounts of data. Users are able to view visually represented property information across all kinds of sectors ranging from general neighbourhood information, historical property prices, ethnic groups, affordability, and lots more.
As property is one of the areas that involve high financial commitment, PropSocial gives the users a clearer overview of what to expect prior to making any financial decisions before making a purchase (or even renting any properties).
Since it's inception in 2015, PropSocial has grown nearly 7 times in web traffic. At a mere 20k unique visitors (84k monthly page views) back then, they now have over 140k unique visitors and 580k page views per month on their website in 2017.
Although the significant growth, PropSocial is not alone in the space. Some of their notable competitors include older players such as iProperty, PropertyGuru and StarProperty, but also relative newcomers such as TheEdgeProperty, DurianProperty, MyProperty, Brickz.my and Estate123, and more. It certainly is a pretty crowded space, but that doesn't stop Magdelin and her team's resolve.
There are more competitors doing property websites now, as compared to, say, 4 years ago. And because of the strong presence of more well-known websites, users might sometimes jump to conclusions and assume that all property websites are exactly the same, without giving it a try. Therefore, more work and marketing will have to be done on the part of PropSocial to create more awareness and let users know that we are different.
According to Magdelin, PropSocial is currently fundraising to scale their operations regionally and to provide more education to the market.
