In December 2018, Thailand legalized the medical use of marijuana seeing the distribution of Thai-produced marijuana to state hospitals and government healthcare recipients.

However, with the recent plantation of 12,000 cannabis seedlings at Maejo University in Chiang Mai, 2 more metric tons of the herb will be available by February to the less critical patients:
Gen. Charan Kullawanit, an advisor to the festival, told reporters:
“We’ll invite different countries to exchange academic ideas and opinions so we’ll be able to see how medical cannabis will benefit the global community.”
