The Malaysian edition of the popular worldwide hackathon, Startup Weekend will be taking place in Kuala Lumpur next month.
Startup Weekend KL, which has been running for 10 consecutive years now, will be held from the 6th to 8th of September 2019 at Found8 co-working space.
In an effort to grow a larger women's movement for innovation and technology, the theme for Startup Weekend KL this time around surrounds women entrepreneurship,
As one of the hardest parts about entrepreneurship is getting started, Startup Weekend KL aims to address this gap by providing an ideal environment for startup magic to take place.
“Here at SWKL, we are pushing towards a better women presence in tech and entrepreneurship. In Malaysia, only 20% of CEOs are women, a figure that drops among tech companies. As a woman, of course it is my responsibility to grow the number bigger”, Lalitha Wemel, SWKL Lead.
Startup Weekend KL expects to bring together 50 high driven women to build a startup in 54 hours.
Throughout the sessions, participants will receive mentorship and support from a wide range of experts across various industries, as well as phenomenal networking opportunities with other participants.
On the final day, participants will pitch to a crowd of seasoned entrepreneurs and investors.
As of 2018, over 1500 future women entrepreneurs have participated in Startup Weekend events across 40 cities globally.
