This sounds very fishy and is most likely a scam.
Prior to this, I have also received such emails, perhaps it may be the same as yours.

First of all, verify:
- Who the sender is - The sender should be from metamask.io domain name (that is the original creator's website)
- The actual URL of the link in the email - In this email, the link appears to look like it goes to metamask.io. However when it is clicked, it goes to another website.
In fact, you should always try to log into your wallet first before taking any action from the email. If there are any updates required, the wallet app should display it to you upon logging in.
