South Korea metaverse ETF performance slumps

Quick Summary

The eight ETFs attracted Won1.5tn ($1.7bn) in combined assets in just two months, according to Korea Exchange data.

New technologies and companies have emerged as the metaverse rose as an alternative to in-person work and social life last year when the Covid-19 pandemic kept many people cooped up in their homes.

Top holdings in most metaverse ETFs include Korea-headquartered tech, game, media and entertainment companies such as LG Innotek, an e-mobility solutions provider, Naver, a search giant, and Hybe, the entertainment agency behind K-pop sensation BTS.
