At ReadMe, we’re committed to cultivating a diverse and inclusive workplace. We welcome people of all backgrounds, experiences, abilities, and perspectives. We are an equal opportunity employer and a pleasant and supportive place to work. We'd love to have you come join us here! ReadMe is open to hiring folks fully remote in the US, hybrid, or in-person at our San Francisco HQ. Not sure if you’d be the right fit? Apply anyway! We’d love to see your application.

So much of what we do at ReadMe is getting to know our customers…. programmatically! We believe the best documentation is tailored to each individual user. But to do that, we need to know who each user is! You’d own all authentication and authorization across ReadMe—from our Enterprise offerings to getting our customer’s customers to their docs.

ReadMe offers several options for customers to customize auth for their users. Customers can integrate with external identity providers via OAuth, SAML, JWT, or webhooks, and manage project-level permissions for users via an admin dashboard. You’ll be maintaining and developing the UIs and APIs for these experiences.

We're a small team of humans (and one owl 🦉) working together to shape the developer landscape through documentation—and we’re growing! That’s where you come in.

🦉 What we do

ReadMe helps companies build beautiful, personalized, and interactive developer hubs. If you’ve ever visited the developer docs for Intercom, Airbnb, or Notion, you’ve used ReadMe! We love what we do because it’s so much more than just docs. We’re providing tools for teams to create and manage beautiful documentation with ease. You can read more about what it’s like to work at ReadMe on our careers page, or our Key Values page.

We've written on our blog in the past about how we interview, and feel free to browse our other blog posts as well if it strikes your fancy!

✅ What you’ll do here

  • Own feature development regarding all things Auth.

  • Manage our user permissions, and expand them based on customer feedback.

  • Work directly with customers (and our sales team) to get new users onboarded.

  • Build creative ways to tailor documentation to each individual user.

💙 You’ll love this job if you are…

  • Thoughtful about usability and making things simple at every turn.

  • Passionate about building seamless auth experiences for both admins and users.

  • Interested in owning a significant feature across the ReadMe product and codebase.

  • Excited to improve code quality through tests, automation, code reviews, and best practices.

  • Able to collaborate across teams and mentor engineers on your team.

  • Fluent at modern JavaScript programming techniques for the back end and front end.

🌱 How you’ll grow in one month

  • Meet the team and be involved in planning meetings for upcoming features.

  • Get your local development environment running and work on small features and bugs.

  • Begin to refine the various auth experiences at ReadMe.

🪴 Within a few months, you’ll…

  • Create intuitive and secure UIs and APIs for our auth experiences.

  • Manage how we create permissions for users and admins.

  • Debug and streamline our current auth infrastructure.

  • Plan improvements and redesigns for auth and permissions.

🌳 Within your first year, you’ll…

  • Redesign and own the user management UI in both our core, and enterprise products.

  • Work toward authentication interoperability.

  • Build off what you learned in the past six months to make recommendations on where ReadMe should move auth forward.

🛣️ What’s the hiring process like?

  1. We can’t wait to read your resume and (hopefully personality-filled) cover letter! Let us know what excites you about ReadMe, and help us get to know you better!

  2. If we think we might be a good fit for you, we’ll set up a 30 minute phone chat with Rafe, our Head of Engineering, or Ilias, our Full Stack Engineering Manager! They’ll tell you more about the role, and get a chance to hear about your experiences.

  3. Next will be a second 30 minute phone interview with our CEO/founder Greg, where we’ll dive a bit more into your background.

  4. Then we’ll invite you to an "onsite" interview conducted over Zoom! These usually take 3.5 to 5 hours including an hour break in between. We are able to be flexible with the schedule and split it up over two days if that works best for you! We start with a 15-minute get-to-know-you with the Full Stack team so you can meet the people you’ll be working with, and then have you talk with people one-on-one later on.

  5. We’ll let you know how things went within a week! If it still seems like a good fit all around, we’ll extend you an offer! If not, we will update you to let you know so you aren’t left hanging.

✨ Our benefits include…

  • Unlimited PTO with a three-week minimum. 🏝

  • Fully covered medical, dental, and vision insurance for you, and 50% for your dependents. 🩺

  • A One Medical membership. 🧑‍⚕️

  • A wellness stipend for therapy of up to $350 per month. 😌

  • A gym or fitness stipend of up to $150 per month. 🏋️

  • One-to-one donation matching of up to $1,000 per year. 💸

  • Twelve weeks of paid parental leave after the birth or adoption of a child. 🐣

  • Work from home office stipend of $500. 🖥

  • For fully remote employees, a stipend of $300 per month is available for a co-working space. 🧑‍💻

  • Three offsite retreats per year to get together with coworkers and plan for the quarter ahead. ✈️
