As the Laboratory Technician / Research Associate you will be supporting and working alongside our fabulous R&D team; a diverse group of innovative, creative and patient-focused researchers with expertise in microbiology, microbial genetics, microbial ecology, molecular biology, synthetic biology, biotechnology, and bioinformatics. We are a dynamic and fun loving group looking for an enthusiastic, thorough, and highly motivated individual who is passionate about contributing to development of a novel solution to help patients who have no other options.
RESPONSIBILITIES WILL INCLUDE
- Laboratory management: Media preparation and tracking of reagents and consumables
- Executing standard DNA manipulation and analysis protocols
- Executing defined research protocols and processes as well as developing new processes
- Performing NGS workflow steps for Illumina and Oxford Nanopore, including sample preparation, library preparation, and sequencing
- Investigating phage-bacteria interactions through standard and novel methodologies
- Monitoring and developing automation processes
- Working with diverse pathogenic organisms such as Pseudomonas, Staphylococcus, Klebsiella, and Mycobacterium
REQUIREMENTS
The ideal candidate will be comfortable in a fast-paced lab, supporting our efforts in developing phage biotherapeutics with sequencing, bacterial culturing, phage/host interaction studies, and microbial engineering.
You would be a good fit if you:
- Are highly motivated, organized and give great attention to detail
- Work effectively within a collaborative and multidisciplinary team
- Have a baccalaureate degree in life or physical sciences
- Are proficient in basic microbiology lab techniques including aseptic technique, as well as basic molecular biology skills such as DNA cloning and assembly, PCR, gel electrophoresis, and DNA quantification
- Are proficient in spreadsheets and other organizational tools
- It’d be great if you also have >1 year of industry experience in library preparation for next-generation sequencing and DNA assembly.
