KURUKURU is a startup building an AI-powered comics creation engine and platform. We are venture-backed by top-tier seed investors including Village Global and Y Combinator. With KURUKURU, anyone can create comics within minutes from a browser.
We love visual stories and think everyone should have the power to create their own Batman, Slam Dunk, and Sailor Moon. We are looking for creative and innovative technologists to build together the future of comics.
About the role
We’re looking for a founding engineer who can build robust systems from ground up, is not afraid of hacking and expanding the edge of existing technology, a team player and visual thinker. We ask that you have a strong and proven track record building in interaction, computer graphics and/or machine learning.
Responsibilities
Independently research, design, and develop solutions to satisfy product requirements of the core engine.
Test, monitor and optimize solutions and performance on a variety of browsers.
Implement best practices in system design, code quality, and ensure a reliable, secure, and maintainable system.
Requirements
Proven track record of fast building and deploying interactive systems, games, or machine learning systems.
2+ years of experience with WebGL, three.js, or any realtime rendering library and framework; Or
2+ years of experience with machine learning engineering, from research to deploying machine learning models. Vision or image expertise preferred.
Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt to a rapidly evolving startup environment.
Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with a team, as well as independently.
Nice-to-haves:
Experience with generative AI models.
Experience deploying things on GPUs.
Self-motivated learner who likes to keep up with the latest in graphics, AI, and browser tech.
Passion for comics, manga, webtoons, anime, or visual storytelling games.

Our engine is written in Javascript, React and Three.js. Our AI models are implemented in Python.
