The Role
We are looking for a self-starting, highly motivated data scientist or researcher who is not afraid of getting into the details of battery modeling problems. This person will help us refine and improve algorithms for internal state estimation of batteries and predictive algorithms for performance. Their skills should include method and algorithm development, with a strong emphasis on drawing conclusions from experimental data and being able to communicate those conclusions to a technical, non-expert audience. In particular, this person should have a strong grasp of data analysis methods, model optimization approaches and be able to independently evaluate and determine the appropriate tools for measuring error, variance, sensitivity, etc.
Additionally, this person will be partially responsible for designing data curation and analysis as part of the modeling and training workflow. Experience with visualization and data pipelines is a plus.
Responsibilities
- Analyze model performance and error metrics
- Develop analysis methods for large time series data and implement models on that data
- Design and refine optimization approaches for time series models on complex data sets.
- Assist in the development of infrastructure to run optimization at scale
- Calculate top line metrics for optimization, and analyze different exploration/exploitation tradeoffs.
- Communicate approaches and results to a technical, non-expert audience.
Minimum Qualifications
- Experience with model development and implementation (machine learning, controls, etc.)
- Deep understanding of optimization approaches and algorithms
- Data analysis skills, and experience with data science tools
- Experience with standard python programming patterns, including unit testing
- Desire to learn about battery testing, data, and modeling
- Problem-solving experience with a focus on continuous improvement
- Preferred Additional Qualifications
- Experience in battery modeling or battery data analysis
- Experience with dashboarding and data visualization for time series data
- Experience with statistical analysis and knowledge of statistical methods

Target Experience Level
The candidate for this position should have at least one of the following target experience levels:
- 5+ years relevant industry experience
- Bachelors in CS or other engineering discipline and 2+ years relevant industry experience
- A PhD in a quantitative discipline with strong python programming skills
