About the Team

The Finance Technology and Analytics team builds investment management software, facilitates ongoing reporting, and performs analytics to inform strategic decisions. As we continue to evolve the quality and breadth of the data, we’re focusing on building out advanced analytics and making data and insights increasingly part of the key strategic decisions made within the company. As part of the team, you will partner cross-functionally with finance, software engineers, investing partners, and legal and outreach teams in a high-impact and fast-paced environment, exploring data and building advanced analytical models to find insights, diagnose problems and telling compelling stories. 

About the role

We're hiring for a Data Analyst with proficiency in data analysis tools such as SQL and Python. This is an opportunity to leverage YC’s proprietary data on 4,000+ startups to:

  • Build exploratory and predictive analysis and generate insights to inform strategic decisions

  • Use descriptive analytics to evaluate and monitor portfolio performance 

  • Streamline recurring reporting to make it self-serve and accessible to the stakeholders

Key Responsibilities

  • Translating business needs into analytical requirements 

  • Propose innovative solutions by exploratory data analysis from complex and high-dimensional datasets, applying statistical and modeling techniques to evaluate performance, make valuable discoveries and solve non-routine analysis problems

  • Optimize data structure to support our data initiatives, increase operational efficiency, improve collaboration and knowledge sharing

  • Manage analytics lifecycle from inception to delivery and potential ongoing maintenance

  • Visualize the analysis into easy-to-consume storylines for the stakeholders

  • Provide business insights on what drives portfolio returns and leverage the learnings to inform future strategies 

  • Leverage current analytical and reporting tools to develop automated and reusable routines for extracting requested information from database, streamline reporting and improve the end user experience

Required skills

  • 4-7 years of experience as data analyst, product analyst, portfolio analyst, or data scientist 

  • Proficiency in data analysis tools such as SQL and Python

  • Strong analytical and reporting skills

  • Able to handle multiple tasks in a fast paced environment

  • Ability to evaluate alternative solutions and/or workarounds

  • Experience with portfolio analytics is preferred, but not required

Location

  • We are headquartered in the Bay Area, with offices in San Francisco and Mountain View. This role can either be remote or in-person. Employees living outside the Bay Area will be required to travel for team meetings and company events. The frequency and length of travel are based on the specific role and responsibilities.

Benefits

Compensation

  • $130,000 to $190,000 + target bonus (depending on skills and experience)
