About the Role:
We’re hiring an Assistant Buyer to join our Merchandising team. You will work directly with the Head of Merchandising to create an exciting and timely product assortment for our unique audience. You will support the overall execution of all product categories at Short Story, ensure data accuracy, and sample management. You must have a passion for fashion, be analytically minded, and possess a stellar work ethic. You should have interest in startups, e-commerce, and tech.
What You’ll Do:
Work with Head of Merchandising to determine the overall mix of product for each category to ensure a customer-oriented final mix
Assist in the development of the product assortment, key item positioning, and ensuring that the assortment is compelling, commercially viable and supports overall business objectives
Ensure data-entry integrity and maintenance product integrity in product management systems
Maintain all purchase orders and all records with meticulousness and attention to detail
Prompt vendor communication to ensure timely product development flow
Review and analyze product information data from vendors to ensure accuracy
Be responsible for samples management and organization
Act as a conduit of information, materials, and samples to cross-functional teams
Create & manage Photo catalog and manage photo quality in management system
Create, enter & perform in-season updates to product information in multiple databases
Plan and prioritize workload to meet deadlines and increase efficiency
Complete seasonal projects for merchandising team (ex: trend and competitor research)
Opportunity for growth into category management, depending on experience
Conduct administrative work for the merchandising team as needed
Who You Are:
Bachelor’s Degree in Fashion, Business, or a related field
2 years retail buying experience
Ability to work on cross functional teams
Excellent communication and organizational skills
Strong analytical ability and retail acumen
Clear and concise presentation skills
Proficiency in Excel
An understanding of the customer's wants and needs and shopping experience
Ability to creatively identify the appropriate product/trend that will appeal to the customer and meet their expectations
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, multi-task and maintain attention to detail
Fundamental understanding of financial KPIs of the business (IMU%, MD%, GM%, selloff, WOS, etc.) and the OTB
