ABOUT THE ROLE

NEW STORY is seeking a talented Housing & Business Strategy Senior Manager to help accomplish our goal of providing affordable housing solutions for 1 Million people by 2030.

The Housing & Business Strategy Manager will provide technical expertise to create and expand the business models of our partner intervention portfolio companies. Examples of partner intervention portfolio companies include financial service providers (inclusive of fintech), construction companies, government institutions and municipalities, among others. These companies are promising start-ups that are developing innovative models and technology as well as established companies addressing affordable housing for low-income households.

The Housing & Business Strategy Manager will be responsible for leading the design, improvement, and expansion of housing finance products and services. For each partnership, the Housing & Business Strategy Manager will assess organizational performance, develop a technical assistance plan, and achievable goals, identify a team of experts required to implement the plan to improve organizational and/or model effectiveness, and build a sustainable competitive advantage that expands the New Story partnership portfolio.

The is a new position and will provide the right leader with the opportunity to help shape the process of business analysis, business planning, and strategy implementation to support the expansion of the market systems-focused housing interventions portfolio of New Story. The Housing & Business Strategy Manager will report to the Managing Director of Strategy and Impact, and will work in close collaboration with the Impact team leaders and occasionally cross-departmentally.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Create and oversee the expansion plan for interventions that organizations and/or companies are developing in partnership with New Story.

  • Identify threats, risk mitigation strategies, and opportunities for the interventions that partner organizations are developing in partnership with New Story.

  • Assess market trends and competitors that can support and/or hinder the expansion of the interventions partners are developing in partnership with New Story.

  • Present findings, projections, and recommended actions to improve the interventions developed in partnership with New Story. i.e. Marketing plans, business processes, use of technology, sales agents training, etc.

  • Plan, implement, and manage proposed recommendations along with other team members.

  • Work alongside the monitoring, evaluation, and learning team to make sure projects are moving forward and suggest business improvements based on performance.

  • Provide advice in the design of housing finance products and related services to a wide range of financial service providers, including but not limited to banks, credit unions, microfinance, digital financial services, and housing finance organizations. 

  • Support financial service providers on various topics, including strategy, risk, operations, digital transformation, products, and delivery channels. 

  • Contribute to the strategy and growth of the work with financial service providers by identifying and building relationships that will support the expansion of financial services for housing for vulnerable populations.

  • Support executive decision-making processes, when required, and be an active member of the Impact Leadership team  

  • Contribute to developing reports and presentations from the Impact team (monthly, quarterly, annual) for various stakeholders of New Story.

WHO YOU ARE

  • 7+ years of experience in business administration, operations, management consulting or strategic planning, and financial product design.

  • 5+ years of experience with the design of financial products and services for low-income households.

  • Highly skilled at creating business models, business plans, and financial projections.

  • 5+ years of experience leading market research (using secondary and primary data) to inform strategy and product development.

  • Experience with affordable housing is highly desired.

  • Experience in microfinance, financial inclusion, and the housing sector is highly desired.

  • Experience with digital finance is highly desired.

  • Experience designing and delivering training and technical assistance to for-profit companies, financial institutions, and government agencies preferred.

  • Experience leading and delivering several consulting and institutional assessments/due diligence assignments.

  • Degree in business administration or related field.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Professional proficiency in English (written and spoken) is mandatory.

  • Strong organizational and planning skills.

  • Outstanding research and analytical abilities.

  • An exceptional project manager who thrives in a fast-paced environment and delivers high-quality work

  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.

  • Experience working in LATAM

  • Able to travel to different locations within Mexico and Atlanta when required.

  • Has excellent market research experience and skills (secondary and primary) and analytical mind, 

  • Is a strategic thinker with strong organizational and problem-solving skills, 

  • Is a great facilitator, Is well versed in business models, 

  • Has strong interpersonal skills and experience managing partner or client relations,

  • Has experience in the creation of financial products for low-income segments, and has outstanding presentation skills.

BENEFITS

  • Health & Wellness.  We believe in thriving communities and that starts with our team being happy and healthy. We currently offer a monthly health insurance stipend for our MX team members and are in the process of electing private health insurance for our MX team members.

  • Aguinaldo. MX team members receive 15 days of pay in time for the holidays. This amount will be pro-rated for team members within their first year at New Story.

  • Vacation Day Premium. MX team members enjoy a base of 12 vacation days per year paid at a rate of 1.25% their base rate of pay.

  • Unlimited Time Off after the 1st Year.  After year one, MX team members have access to an unlimited paid time off (PTO) policy. This time off is paid at the regular base rate of pay.

  • Paid Parental Leave.  Primary caregivers are given 12 weeks paid time off. Secondary caregivers are given 6 weeks paid time off. 

  • Adoption Reimbursement.  For families who are willing to adopt, thank you! New Story will reimburse eligible team members up to $10,000 for adoption related expenses.

  • 5-Week Sabbatical after the 5th Year. The 5-year mark is an incredible milestone, as well as a great time to reflect, unplug, and enjoy some time off. Team members' celebrating their 5-year anniversary are given 5-weeks off with pay.

  • Trip to the Field.  It’s amazing to meet the families we help and see the homes up close and personal. Prioritization will vary by role.

  • Team Summits.  At least once per year, we have a full company summit where we have fun, reflect, and plan for the upcoming quarter. Past trips have been in Tahoe, CA and Whidbey Island, WA.

  • Commuter Benefits.  We’re grateful for all the time and energy each team member puts into getting to work every day. For some, getting to work takes additional time and expense because of their commute, our commuter benefits policy helps to offset that.

LOCATION & COMPENSATION

We are prioritizing candidates in Mexico City, but open to candidates throughout Mexico. Our offer will be commensurate with experience and location.
