About Us

Probably Genetic provides severely ill patients with genetic tests at no cost through sponsored testing programs, which helps patients access diagnoses, clinical trials, and treatments earlier in their own journeys. We find patients online using our ML phenotyping platform and test them for free with our telemedicine genetic testing service. Backed by Y Combinator and Khosla Ventures, Probably Genetic’s mission is to diagnose 200 million rare disease patients worldwide.

We Are Looking for a Full Stack Engineer Who:

-Is creative, independent, and experienced in frontend and backend web development, database design, and devOps. -Embraces difficult technical challenges like digital phenotyping and genetic data processing.
-Is excited to get their hands dirty at a startup that is rapidly growing its team and operations. -Cares about problems greater than themselves and wants to have a lasting, positive impact on humanity. Possesses empathy and compassion about the patient experience. -Might not know a lot about genetics or machine learning, but is genuinely keen to learn more. -Is looking to improve their skills as a programmer, designer, and entrepreneur as they join us in the exciting world of an early-stage startup tackling a large problem. -Wants to have autonomy over their work and the opportunity to reason through and make decisions that will be long-lasting.

Responsibilities

-Backend Development: You'll contribute to developing and maintaining our backend infrastructure (using Python, Django, PostgresSQL, Celery, etc.) to interface with our frontend and our laboratory infrastructure. -Frontend Development: You will contribute to designing and developing the client-facing components of Probably Genetic, like our Patient Portal, internal tooling, and Analytics Dashboard. We use Typescript, React, and NextJS. Machine Learning: You'll have the opportunity to use or learn ML while working on our proprietary Symptom Checker and modeling products, helping rare disease patients get selected for no cost genetic testing. -Cross-Functional Efforts: You'll have opportunities to contribute to non-technical initiatives, including recruiting, team building, design, marketing, and customer enablement. -Team Culture: Contribute to the team culture in daily/weekly team meetings and retreats. User Research: Work with our patient community managers to ensure that the products we build are truly improving the lives of patients.

Skills/Qualifications in our Ideal Candidate:

-Experience in Python using Flask or Django -Experience using a relational database like PostgreSQL. -Experience in React and TypeScript. -An understanding of software design best practices. A love of clean, maintainable, and testable code. -Overall, you're smart, willing to work hard, and open to learning about any technologies you may not have worked with before. -You have a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or a related field, or have equivalent work experience. -You have 2+ years of experience doing full-stack web development (these could be your own projects or within a work environment).
