To expand health care in Indonesia, Japan’s Marubeni Corporation has acquired a 5 percent stake in PT Siloam International Hospitals (Siloam), a publicly listed hospital chain controlled by PT Lippo Karawaci.
The strategic partnership with Lippo Karawaci and the acquisition of Siloam’s shares are part of Marubeni’s program to further its presence in Indonesia.
Siloam won Frost & Sullivan Healthcare Services Provider of the Year 2010 for Best Practices.
The Japanese conglomerate also has entered the Taiwanese solar market with the acquisition of Chenya Energy Co Ltd, a solar project developer operating in the country.
“We are pleased to be growing our presence in Indonesia and look forward to a long-term partnership with Lippo and Siloam,” Masayuki Omoto, the chief operating officer of Marubeni’s Next Generation Business Development Division, said.
